ViaSat Internet Review

Internet options in rural areas are very much limited compared to what you have in cities and metro areas. If cable and fiber options are out of reach and you have to choose a satellite internet service for your needs however, Viasat should be one of your top choices for high-speed and reliable internet. Via Sat used to be known as Exede. The provider offers high-speed internet needed for a decent internet experience, especially if you’re living in a rural or remote area.

ViaSat Internet Speeds

Via Sat offers internet plans with different speed options. Most of these plans have download speeds that could range from 12 Mbps to 25 Mbps, 30 Mbps, 50 Mbps, and 100 Mbps.

These plans are divided into two main categories that comprise of a Liberty and Unlimited classes of internet plans. The Liberty pans are of three types;

Liberty 12 with 12 GB data cap, starting from $30 per month.
The Liberty 25 plan with a 25 GB data cap and starts from $50 per month.
Liberty 50 which starts from $50 and comes with a data cap of 50 GB.

All three liberty plans have up to 12 Mbps download speeds.

The unlimited plans have different speeds from 12 Mbps to 100Mbps. But even with the high upload speed, the high latency of satellite internet services means you’ll get a poor experience using Via Sat for gaming, with VPN, or video chats. You also won’t be able to stream in 4K as the provider automatically adjusts resolution to limit data usage.

ViaSat Internet Unlimited Plans

Via Sat offers six main unlimited plans with different data caps and varying download speeds. The table below gives a breakdown of these plans;

ViaSat would normally jack up prices for most of its plans after the first three months. Only after then will you be able to lock in prices for the 24 months contract you’ll have to sign.

Even at this, the increased prices are still better than most other satellite internet providers, take HughesNet, for example, which charges significantly per megabit per second than ViaSat does.

ViaSat Internet Bundles (With DirecTV)

ViaSat allows you to bundle DirecTV with your ViaSat Internet.

There’s also another package that allows you to bundle voice, internet, and TV, as well. Along with the DirecTV access, this bundle gives you unlimited calling across all 50 US states as well as Canada. You can give their customer support a call to set this up.

Talking of customer support, ViaSat is much like most of the other internet service providers whose notoriety for poor internet services is only bested by the airline industry.

ViaSat is the real deal if you want to enjoy high-speed internet in places where the other options are out of reach. The provider offers different plans with different speeds that may depend on where you live. These plans seem expensive when you compare side-by-side to most cable, fiber, or DSL internet services. But in the league of satellite internet services, ViaSat offerings are among the least expensive.
